Abbotsford Division members recently got a chance to experience Beyond Blankets, an immersive and interactive learning exercise that offered a deeper understanding of Indigenous history, culture, and connection to the land, and highlighted the impacts of European settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples.
Physicians and other frontline health-care providers witness firsthand how history, trust and lived experience shape health outcomes. Beyond Blankets provided a practice-relevant learning experience that deepened their understanding of the health-care system’s impact on Indigenous patients — and how they can make a meaningful difference in the exam room.
Hosted by the Abbotsford Division of Family Practice with support from the Abbotsford School District, Beyond Blankets has been inspired by the work of University of the Fraser Valley, the BC Teachers’ Federation, and KAIROS’ Blanket Exercise.
