LifeLabs Email and Fax Requisitions: Remind your Patients
Physicians submitting requisitions to LifeLabs are reminded to ensure their patients are aware when a requisition for them has been faxed or emailed to LifeLabs.
All requisitions emailed or faxed to LifeLabs are stored on a secure online requisition repository and can be accessed at any LifeLabs Patient Service Centre (PSC).
This is particularly important in the following scenarios:
- The patient has a paper requisition, but additional requisitions were also faxed or emailed on the same visit.
- A requisition has been faxed or emailed for new or modified standing orders that must be processed on the patient’s next visit.
Please instruct your patients to notify the LifeLabs PSC staff that a requisition has been emailed or faxed, so that it can be retrieved from the repository and processed. Access further LifeLabs updates on their website. |

MHO Update: Lead Poisoning Linked to Opium-Containing Products
Fraser Health is issuing a public service announcement (PSA) to the general public and to South Asian populations through culturally-specific channels warning about risks associated with Ayurvedic medicines and opium products “doda” and “afeem” that may be contaminated with heavy metals, specifically lead. The full MHO Update is available here. |

New Pathways feature: Create your own email bundles
Create and name your own bundles of resources to email to patients. A new floating email pop-up allows you to make combined bundles that can include a community service like OASIS online classes, plus patient info items such as knee arthritis exercises and the walking pole handout. You can save and name your bundles and find your saved bundles in the “You” tab in the black menu bar.

A Day in the Life of a Preceptor – A course for family physicians to advance teaching skills!
A Day in the Life of a Preceptor is a course designed by family physicians for their colleagues with a keen interest in, or currently teaching to advance their teaching skills. This professional development program tailored for community-based FPs, offered by the partnership between the Division of Family Practice and UBC. The program includes five topics, ranging from student orientation to teaching skills and assessment and is offered through virtual meetings, online modules, and group discussions. At the end of the 10-month program, participants will receive a UBC teaching certificate.
Here is some feedback from past participants.
- “Small groups are easy to participate, and we get to connect and network.”
- “The cases lead to good dialogue even with a group varying in different stages of career.”
- “I (surprisingly) really enjoyed the online modules. I found them engaging and entertaining. The group component was an excellent way to meet colleagues and learn from their experience. So far, a truly excellent course!”
- “I am so glad that I undertook the UBC preceptor course, as I am feeling more confident in taking on future learners.”
This program has been certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the BC Chapter for up to 36 Mainpro+ certified credits. Participants are required to complete all components of the Mainpro+ certified activity to be eligible to receive the approved credits.
