PCN Clinical Counseling Sees 65% Reduction in Pt Anxiety

Client K, a 75-year-old female, was referred for counseling for moderately severe depression (PHQ-9: 19) and moderate anxiety (GAD-7: 12).

She revealed moderate childhood trauma and a strained relationship with her mother. After losing her husband to cancer in 2009, she moved to BC, though her children stayed in another province. The COVID-19 pandemic further isolated her, impacting family relationships. Over six sessions, she benefited from Psychoeducation, Mindfulness, and CBT, which included decision-making, goal setting, rephrasing self-talk, living in the present, and using resources like websites, apps, and books.

She also found psychodynamic techniques, including dream interpretation, eye-opening and requested three more sessions to explore further. Engaged and proactive, she reported feeling stronger and set future goals with the tools gained. At discharge, her symptoms improved significantly (PHQ-9: 12 and GAD-7: 4), indicating moderate depression and minimal anxiety.

Enhance Your Teaching Skills: A Day in the Life of a Preceptor

A Day in the Life of a Preceptor is a professional development course designed by family physicians for their peers who are interested in advancing their teaching skills. Offered by the Division of Family Practice and UBC, this 10-month program includes five key topics, such as student orientation, teaching techniques, and assessment. The course combines virtual meetings, online modules, and group discussions. Participants will receive a UBC teaching certificate upon completion.

Here is some feedback from past participants.

  • “I (surprisingly) really enjoyed the online modules. I found them engaging and entertaining. The group component was an excellent way to meet colleagues and learn from their experience. So far, a truly excellent course!”
  • “I am so glad that I undertook the UBC preceptor course, as I am feeling more confident in taking on future learners.”

Certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the BC Chapter for up to 36 Mainpro+ credits.

Fraser Valley Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope

I am organizing the local Fraser Valley Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope this year. I would like to invite everyone to register, raise some money and come join me on Sept 8 at Mill Lake Park in Abbotsford for some fun, prizes, food, entertainment, and a walk around the lake to raise money and awareness for Ovarian Cancer.
Ovarian Cancer is the most fatal of the gynaecological cancers and the reality is that every 5 hours, we lose someone to it in Canada. I organize this Walk in memory of my best friend who died in 2021 of this terrible disease (whose survival rate has also not changed in 50 years!) We want to try and change that.

Please click here to register: (you can also walk virtually from anywhere.)

Or click here to donate:

We can also always use volunteers. Please contact me if you’re interested.

Thank you so much for your support.
